Introduction: Summer Writers Workshop or SWW is a two week long summer study program of study focused on developing student’s ability to construct meaningful arguments using sound evidence and reasoning. The workshop is sponsored by the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago.

Area of Study: Students will focus on elements of argument and their application in the humanities and social sciences.

How the SWW Works: Through classroom instruction, group research (e.g. a review of primary sources such as trends—using graphs, charts, and computer searches students will engage in written and oral discussion about the nature of academic writing and argument.

For Students
SWW will be held from 6/27 – 7/22/11. Students are expected to attend class from 8:30 to 12:30pm daily. Students are responsible for their transportation to and from SWW.

For Teachers
Students from your school may request that you submit an online letter of recommendation for them. In most cases our system will send you an automatic email. Please complete your recommendation by 5/6.

For Counselors
By logging into the USI network web hub you will be able to track which students from your school have applied to SWW and stay abreast of the status of their applications.

It is important that the USI Network staff receive accurate and complete information in a timely manner in order to aid the application process. Please send the most recent student transcript available for the applicant.
