Introduction: Summer Accelerated Math Camp or SAM-C is a month long summer study program of accelerated math study in the areas of Algebra / Trigonometry and Economics sponsored by the Urban Education Institute at the University of Chicago.
Area of Study: Students will use mathematics, logic, and financial literacy to increase their knowledge and understanding of economics and college decision making and makes learning about economics fun and relative.
How the SAM-C Works: Through classroom instruction, group research (e.g. a review of primary sources such as trends—using graphs, charts, and computer searches), an educational board game (Cash Flow 101), and bi-weekly field trips that offer practical application of mathematical principles, students will experience “Cash Flow 101.” Students will study and review necessary fundamentals of algebra and economics, and based upon individual performance, they will then move into higher-level mathematical principles and applications that will equip them with the necessary skills to succeed in accelerated mathematics course work at the high school level. Students may earn class credit for SAM-C participation.*
