Overview:
Based in the historic Homan Square Power House, once the source of energy for the Sears, Roebuck and Company global headquarters, Power House High seeks to energize and educate our nation’s future leaders. Power House High operates on the principle that academic and career success requires a solid connection between classroom activities and the world around. Like most other Chicago high schools, Power House requires students to master science, math, language arts, social studies and a foreign language. However, the school also offers its students much more. Through its innovative curriculum, Power House seeks to instill in students the tools necessary to thrive as a member of the global community of the 21st century. To that end, courses and lessons are created to teach students about environmental sustainability and green technology. Moreover, students are expected to demonstrate maturity and personal responsibility in their interactions within the school and with the broader community. Ultimately, by ensuring a comprehensive education, Power House High prepares its students to succeed in their endeavors following graduation, whether attending four-year college or pursuing advanced specialized training.
