Overview:
Kim Dixon and Diana Shulla-Cose started Perspectives in 1993 as a small school serving 45 students within the larger Dyett Elementary School. From its inception, an education at Perspectives Charter Schools was based upon the twenty-six principles articulated in A Disciplined Life – a guidebook created by the school’s founders focused on positive self-perception, effective communication and productivity. In 1997, after the Illinois General Assembly legislated charter schools, Perspectives became one of the first five charter schools in the state. Since then, Perspectives has expanded into a network of five schools serving students throughout Chicago’s South Side.
Perspectives Calumet High School opened in 2006 to provide a Perspectives education to high school aged students in the Auburn Gresham neighborhood of Chicago. Through dedicated administrators and teachers, along with an unwavering commitment to the principles articulated in A Disciplined Life, Perspectives Calumet High School builds a rigorous academic community in which each student ultimately has the opportunity to attend college.
