Overview:
LEARN Excel Charter School, opened in 2008, is the second school in the LEARN Charter School Network. The LEARN Network has provided a high quality education to children living in underserved communities for over 27 years. The school was originally started when Patricia Vockeroth, Margaret Rauls, and Ernestine Rivers grew frustrated with the lack of quality educational opportunities for students in the North Lawndale community. Since then, LEARN has grown from initially serving and educating 11 students to its current enrollment of over 600 students. Over that period, LEARN’s guiding principles have remained remarkably consistent. At the core of this philosophy is a commitment to upholding high expectations, fostering a nurturing environment, engaging families and communities, and developing the whole child. Ultimately, LEARN educators work tirelessly to instill in their students at a young age both the motivation and the academic foundation to eventually attend and succeed in college.
