Overview:
The original Walt Disney Magnet School opened in 1974 as the first magnet school in Chicago. Disney sought to reflect the racial, ethnic and socio-economic diversity of the city in its own classrooms, while providing students with an excellent education. Due to the academic success of the original campus, Chicago Public Schools invited Disney to replicate and Disney II Magnet School opened its doors in September of 2008. Disney II, like its prototype, strives to create a rigorous and relevant curriculum for all of its students within a highly positive and disciplined school environment. Disney II pursues exceptional educational outcomes on four fronts: the pursuit of high expectations, the integration of arts and technology across all subjects, the celebration of diversity and the creation of a professional learning community. Ultimately, by realizing these aspirations, Disney II seeks to empower students to make a meaningful contribution to the future of their communities, state and eventually the nation as a whole.
