Kyle Westbrook
Kyle Westbrook is the Director of Secondary School Supports for the USI Network. He is principally involved in coaching school leaders and leadership teams around areas of instructional improvement. Additionally he supports network secondary schools by providing just in time supports related to data, instruction, content area professional development or other immediate needs that network schools have. Kyle also leads the John Hope Franklin Learning Group for secondary social science teachers.
Prior to joining UEI, Kyle was a veteran high school teacher in the Chicago Public Schools. Beginning his career in 1995 at Lincoln Park and then moving to Walter Payton College Prep, Kyle has taught a wide range of students and participated in almost every level of school leadership from the Local School Council to his own classes. Kyle was recognized for outstanding teaching in 1998 and 2003.
Kyle is completing his Ph.D. in Education Policy Studies at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He holds a B.S. and M.S. in Education from Southern Illinois University Carbondale. His research interests are education history, teacher unions, and urban school reform. His dissertation topic is Racial Politics and Desegregation within the Chicago Teachers Union: 1963- 1983.
