Erin Powell
Erin Powell works with the USI Network and Consortium on Chicago School Research to support the Network’s archivation, management, analysis, and collection of school data. As part of the Data and Practice Collaborative, she works with colleagues from the Consortium to provide information to schools in a way that is both understandable and useful in understanding where their practices are excelling and where there may be room for improvement. Additionally, Erin provides support in evaluation and assessment of USI Network’s progress to the goals they have set out for the year.
Erin graduated from the University of Chicago with a Master’s of Arts in Sociology in 2008, under the advisement of Stephen Raudenbush. Her thesis examined the relationship between parenting behaviors and school readiness for the pre-school-aged children of teen mothers. She is currently enrolled in the Measurement, Evaluation, Statistics, Assessment (MESA) Master’s program in the College of Education at the University of Illinois at Chicago. Her undergraduate work was at the University of Notre Dame, where she majored in Sociology and Marketing. During this time, she spent time in schools in Indiana and the UK, studying the influence of tutoring on high school students serving in-school suspensions and policy issues regarding funding for special needs schools, respectively.
Erin’s education-related interests include urban education, student assessment, parental involvement, school readiness, guidance counseling, student engagement, and school culture.
